University Professorship for Experimental Physics

TU Graz

Austria

The Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) / Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Geodesy
is inviting applications for a university professorship for

Experimental Physics

with anticipated starting date on 01.10.2022. The university professorship is hosted at the
institute of Experimental Physics and the candidate will be employed at Graz University of
Technology with a permanent contract according to the Austrian Universities Act (§ 98 UG).
The Institute of Experimental Physics has a long tradition in the field of lasers, optics and
spectroscopy with active projects in the area of atomic- and molecular physics as well as
charge and spin dynamics in solids and on surfaces.

We are looking for exceptionally qualified candidates ready to strengthen the research profile
of our institution with contemporary activities in the area of quantum optics. Possible topics
include the development of optical methods for spectroscopy and sensing, in particular in the
context of sustainability (e.g. atmospheric spectroscopy, photo-voltaics, photo-catalytics) and
modern developments in the area of magneto-optics or time- and spatially resolved
lightmatter-interaction. Teaching qualifications for the full breadth of experimental physics
(bachelor-, master and PhD-level) and the topics of the institute are expected.

Graz University of Technology and Karl-Franzens-University Graz are dedicated to establish
a common physics department within the framework of NAWI Graz. Readiness to actively
contribute to this center and for local, interdisciplinary collaborations is expected. In particular
within the area of optics with activities hosted at both universities, the Field of Expertise
„Advanced Material Science" of TU Graz and other research activities related to sustainability.

Employment Requirements:

Relevant university degrees including PhD
Excellent scientific qualifications in research and teaching in the experimental physics
Experience in the acquisition and management of third-party funded projects
International experience and scientific networking
Pedagogical and didactical qualification, certified by a habilitation (venia docendi) or
equivalent.
Teaching expertise and (co-)supervision of theses

Leadership qualification

Interested candidates are friendly asked to submit a detailed application:
using the application form on https://www.tugraz.at/go/professorships-vacancies/
followed by a curriculum vitae (including copies of certificates and other documents)
including a description of the scientific work in teaching and research (with a list of
publications and the originals of the five most important publications), and
including a concept planned for the future research and teaching at TU Graz

Please send the application in English and in electronic form (PDF) by using general email
address bewerbungen.mpug@tugraz.at Application deadline (date of receipt of email) is:
13th April 2021

Each application should be addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics
and Geodesy of Graz University of Technology, Univ.-Prof. Dr. R. Würschum, Petersgasse
