The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen intends to fill the following professorial chair
as soon as possible:

University Professor in Materials Engineering (Werkstofftechnik)
(Salary Scale W 3 LBesO W)

The Faculty of Engineering with the four departments Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Computer Science and Applied Cognitive Sciences, and Mechanical and Process Engineering conducts basic and applied research at a high, internationally recognized level. With approximately
80 chairs and over 10,000 students, the faculty is one of the largest in Germany.

We are looking for an internationally recognized personality in the field of innovative materials in mechanical
engineering. The ideal candidate comprises a wide experience of fundamental materials-based processes,
properties of materials surfaces, e.g., tribological stresses and cyclic loading of materials with their consequences on the service life of components.

The applicant is expected to have publications in high-ranking, peer-reviewed journals as well as adequate
experience with the acquisition and management of competitive projects financed by third-party funds, preferably projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The interests for intensive cooperation with the professorships of the Faculty of Engineering, in particular the
new chairs for Metal Forming Technology and Metallurgy and Foundry Technology, the interdisciplinary Center for Nanointegration (CENIDE) of the UDE and the focus on Materials Chain of the University Alliance Ruhr
is expected. Likewise, the willingness to acquire, initiate and implement interdisciplinary third-party funded
projects and to establish and maintain international contacts is required.

In teaching, he/she is responsible for teaching in both German and English language. In addition to the basic
subjects in the field of materials technology in metals, in-depth lectures should also cover the relationship
between component and fatigue strength as well as damage analysis, including the necessary engineering
fundamentals. Participation in the further development of study programs and in the self-governing bodies of
the university is desired.

The University of Duisburg-Essen places great emphasis on excellence in teaching. Candidates will be
required to present their teaching methodology, as well as show its relevance to the profile of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
