Service and Support for Science IT (S3IT) is a central unit at the University of Zurich that provides and supports IT infrastructure and services for researchers. We offer access to systems that are tailored to the needs of research as well as providing support and consulting services to allow our customers to optimally make use of the IT tools and resources available to them. We are looking for a
Team Leader Science IT Systems (80-100%)
with specialized knowledge of research IT systems and skills to foster continued growth and further development of the services. In this role you will lead a very engaged team of system engineers and coordinate the team's activities with other units across the University.
Your responsibilities
Lead a team with 4+ system engineers
Take responsibility for all centralized scientific computing services at the University of Zurich, including support, operations and enhancements of specialized IT systems
Cultivate a partnership-based collaboration with researchers to understand their needs. You will use their feedback and your expertise in scientific computing to optimally set the direction for further development of the services
Drive the development and reliable delivery of the services together with your team
Ensure compliance with regulatory constraints at all times
Foster an efficient collaboration with multiple IT teams of the University, partnering institutions and suppliers
Your profile
University degree, preferably PhD, in computer science or a related field
Experience as a team leader
Expert knowledge in areas of computer science such as high-performance computing, data analysis, scientific computing, software development, and algorithms
Knowledgeable in Linux system administration and networking. Experienced with automated system deployment at scale
Competent at troubleshooting and able to analyze and quickly isolate the cause of problems
Familiar with research activities in academia and comfortable discussing solutions with Professors, Post Docs, and PhD candidates
Ability to turn abstract requirements into the concrete and to map them onto existing infrastructure or to develop the necessary systems or services
Experience with OpenStack and Slurm is considered a plus
An excellent command of written and spoken English and very good communication skills in German
