Salary :£27511 to £30046 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The Department of Mechanical Manufacturing and Materials of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham invites applications for 3 Teaching Assistants. The successful applicants will be expected to manage and administer the delivery and development of the Department’s innovative undergraduate and postgraduate courses. 


We are seeking applicants with strong organisational skills who can work as a team to manage the provision of postgraduate demonstrators that contribute to the teaching of UGT/PGT workshops, laboratories and classes, and who can contribute to on-going improvements and sharing of best practice across the department.

The successful applicants will be expected to work proactively and collaboratively within wider teams delivering a learning experience for students in line with defined learning objectives.

Duties: 

  • Recruit M3 postgraduate demonstrators and initiate Unitemps bookings for the employment of existing and new postgraduate demonstrators
  • Coordinate with module convenors (or appointed laboratory technicians) w.r.t. their requirements of M3 postgraduate demonstrators
  • Liaise with module convenors and/or other relevant staff members to finalise demonstration rota for M3 postgraduate demonstrators 
  • Monitor M3 postgraduate demonstrators hours throughout the year, check their claims and approve their weekly timesheet claims on Unitemps
  • Manage ad-hoc requests from module convenors and other urgent situation as they arise
  • Attend and assist the organisation of “Demonstrating and Assessing for M3” workshops 
  • Working collaboratively with the other Teaching Assistants, organise M3 postgraduate demonstrators and provide support and advice as needed 
  • Reflect on the organisation, provision and quality of M3 postgraduate demonstrators and take measures to improve them

These fixed-term posts are available for a period of 3 years and are all part-time (18.12 hours per week - 0.5FTE).
