The Opportunity

Monash University is Australia’s largest and most innovative elite learning and research institution, and the Faculty of IT is Australia’s leading information technology research hub.  As part of our ongoing commitment to achieving good social outcomes through the use of technology, we are proud to introduce the new Monash Blockchain Technology Centre (MBTC) – bringing together world-leading expertise across the sector to explore and develop the technology of Blockchain. A key part of this research involves inclusive industry and other social stakeholder partnerships, and the centre aims to introduce relevant Blockchain topics into cross-faculty curriculums and provide targeted training in different sectors of industry.

The mission of MBTC is to leverage our world-class research to serve community, society and address a real-world problem. This includes conducting academic research, establishing and maintaining industrial partnership and collaboration, and providing education and training programs.  Currently, the interdisciplinary expertise of the centre includes blockchain system, blockchain security and privacy, cybersecurity and cryptography, software systems, machine learning and big data management, finance, legal theory and practice, criminology, governance and sustainability, digital health, and energy.

As part of the growth of the Centre, an opportunity exists for a talented and ambitious software engineer to join our close-knit team.  The software engineer will form an integral part of the emergent Monash Blockchain Technology Centre and will contribute to development of industrial projects as well as assisting the prototyping of research projects. Monash BTC is a multi-disciplinary endeavour, and the software engineer will engage with stakeholders from across the university.

As part of their role, the software engineer will:

  • Devise and develop the systems for blockchain-related industrial projects
  • Work with a project manager for front- and backend development
  • Assist the implementation and prototyping of academic research projects
  • Work with research assistants and project students
  • Conduct software testing and software releases, as part of the systems development life cycle

If you believe you can fulfil these requirements, you are strongly encouraged to apply.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
