About the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (MGeo):
Research and education at MGeo address fundamental and applied questions on the Earth’s past, present, and future climate and environment, including people’s interactions with the natural world and consequences for human wellbeing. MGeo advances and deploys cutting-edge methods, models, and technologies in environmental science, quaternary sciences, bedrock geology, paleontology, physical geography, biodiversity and ecosystem science, remote sensing, GIS, and computational science for health and environment, studying processes spanning microscopic to planetary scales across all time scales.
We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science with a specialisation in environmental and sustainability policy work. The position focuses on:
Environmental science research on human-induced environmental problems
Strategic environmental and sustainability work for sustainable management of land and natural resources
Applied and practice-oriented research conducted in interdisciplinary networks
The position offers a starting package, if needed, corresponding to a fully financed PhD position to support the strengthening of this research area.
The main tasks include:
Teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (~30% of full-time), including supervision of degree projects, course responsibility, and course development at both basic and advanced levels
Research (~40% of full-time), including independent research with a focus on strategic environmental and sustainability work
Competence development and departmental management tasks
Cooperation with units within the university, government agencies, organisations, and private actors
Actively seeking external research funding
Teaching Responsibilities:
Teach environmental and sustainability strategy at undergraduate and graduate levels
Supervise degree projects and doctoral students
Courses include: Analysis and Methodology, A Circular and Biobased Society, Applied Environmental Science, and Strategic Environmental- and Sustainability Work (new bachelor-level course)
Master's programme in Environmental Science (international programme starting Fall 2027)
Departmental Responsibilities:
Collaborate with society, authorities, and companies
Contribute to rejuvenating and developing programs, courses, and educational networks at Lund University
A person is qualified for employment as a Senior Lecturer if they:
Have a PhD in environmental science or equivalent research expertise
Have at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education (or equivalent knowledge)
Are suitable for the position and have the general ability to perform duties effectively
Required:
Documented experience in teaching environmental science at higher education level and as a course coordinator
Experience in pedagogical development of environmental science education
Ability to conduct independent, high-quality research focused on sustainable future use and management of land and natural resources
Experience supervising doctoral students
Experience in obtaining national and/or international research grants
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
Meriting:
Research and teaching experience in environmental management in areas such as climate, energy, pollutants, materials, food production, nature conservation, and forestry
Teaching experience in decision processes and decision support tools supporting strategic environmental and sustainability work
Experience developing science-based decision support tools for strategic environmental and sustainability work
Experience applying environmental science research in cooperation with public administration and/or private companies
Combining natural and social science perspectives in research and teaching
Pedagogical training beyond the required 5 weeks, including PhD supervision training
Ability to teach in Swedish and communicate with colleagues and collaborative partners
Other Considerations:
Communication skills, collaboration, and willingness to participate in administrative challenges
Assessment of teaching expertise is as important as research expertise
Non-Swedish speakers must achieve B2 level in Swedish within three years
