Context

The main research interest of the Ferroic Materials for Transducers (FMT) group at LIST is on
ferroic oxide materials with interesting coupling properties. It means these materials can
transform one sort of energy into another one, such as mechanical to electrical. In our dynamic
five-year old group always open to explore new opportunities, we model and grow ferroic
materials and in some cases, we develop proof of concepts such as energy harvesters, actuators
or heap pumps.

For this permanent position, we look for an experimentalist researcher in materials
science/physics/engineering with experience on ferroic materials (e.g. piezoelectrics, caloric
materials, electrooptics).

Description

LIST is a Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) that is strongly project and team
oriented. Consequently, the researcher will have to manage research projects of different kinds,
from academia to industry. These projects will be mostly based on ferroic materials with strong
experimental developments such as films growth, structural and functional characterizations and
proof of concept for applications. The researcher will also have to secure funding to pursue
research. He will also have to write scientific articles and patents. All these activities will be
performed in strong collaboration with the other members of the group and the department.
This researcher should have an excellent academic background. Experience on the applicative
side would be very much appreciated, together with collaboration(s) with industry. Participation
to former European projects would be an asset.

Education

- PhD in Physics, Materials Science or Engineering

Required seniority

- Between 2 and 10 years after PhD completion

Competencies

- Team player
- Knowledge on functional oxides, in particular ferroics
- Ability to conceive and carry out a project to completion independently
- Writing and publication/patent skills
- Excellent academic record
- Experience on applications/industrial partnership
- Experience on PhD candidate supervision

Language

- Good spoken and written English is mandatory
