The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to lead modeling and simulation work in an integrated, interdisciplinary project studying morphological changes in biological and synthetic soft and active materials.
The researcher will work collaboratively within the labs of Teng Zhang and experimental collaborators. The faculty advisor will assist in developing a tailored individual development plan for professional growth.
This position requires on-campus presence to support students, collaborate with colleagues, and engage with the Syracuse University academic community. Remote work is limited per university policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or closely-related discipline
Job-Specific Qualifications:
Demonstrated potential for excellence in research
Strong English verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to lead a new project in a multidisciplinary research environment
Expertise in modeling and simulations of nonlinear viscoelastic materials, biomechanics, numerical simulations (finite element methods, molecular dynamics), theoretical analysis, and fracture
Conduct research on biomechanics of tissue boundary formation
Mentor 1 PhD student and 1 undergraduate REU student
Collaborate with interdisciplinary research team and faculty advisors
