Argonne is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to advance electrochemical processing in molten salt electrolytes, supporting the recycling of nuclear fuel for next-generation reactors. The role focuses on developing and optimizing electrochemical separations to recover actinides and rare earths from complex fuel streams.
Apply electrochemical engineering to scale oxide reduction and electrorefining processes
Develop and characterize new electrochemical reactions and materials
Perform electroanalytical measurements (e.g., cyclic voltammetry, EIS)
Conduct experiments, troubleshoot systems, and maintain equipment
Communicate findings via reports, presentations, and publications
Support proposal development to expand molten salt electrochemistry programs
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (within 5 years)
Experience in electrochemistry, materials science, or electrochemical engineering
Proficiency in experimental design, analysis, and problem-solving
Strong communication skills (written and oral)
Must be a U.S. citizen and pass a background check and drug screening
Experience with molten salt systems, actinide chemistry, or glovebox operations
Familiarity with hazardous materials handling
Interest in nuclear fuel cycle technologies
