Two Postdoctoral research positions in the Centre for Materials in Energy and Catalysis (CMEC)

Fixed term positions available immediately for up to two years; latest start date is 1 September 2020

Build your research career at the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials in a world-class research centre led by ARC Laureate Fellow, Professor Shizhang Qiao

The two positions are supported by ARC Laureate Fellowship. The overarching aim of the Laureate Fellowship is efficient and sustainable production of fuels and chemicals using abundant sources like water, carbon dioxide and sunlight by an integrated reaction system. Through understanding molecular design principles and material engineering, a range of novel electrocatalysts will be developed featuring high activity, efficiency, selectivity and stability for clean energy reactions, including but not limited to carbon dioxide reduction and hydrogen evolution reactions. This is of great importance for solar fuel generation and carbon dioxide utilisation, which are the key energy and environmental challenges facing today’s Australia and world.

The two positions are for a materials engineer/scientist to work for the design and testing of materials for electrochemical energy conversions. Work includes synthesizing nanomaterials with well-defined structures, conducting various characterization of these nanomaterials, designing testing compartments, and testing for electrochemical performance.

The successful applicants will be working in CMEC, with a diverse range of scientists and engineers with expertise in materials science and engineering for energy related applications. The research will be interdisciplinary and have a strong fundamental component with cutting edge materials synthesis and advanced analytical methods. These positions can offer you an exceptional opportunity to work closely with key research participants around the world.

To be successful you will need:

  • A recent PhD in the field of Material Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry; or about to be awarded PhD. A strong record of research relative to opportunity is expected in the field of Materials Science or Materials Engineering as evidenced by a nationally recognised publication record.
  • Knowledge and expertise in synthesis of nanostructured materials with well-defined structure.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate scientific and engineering ideas to an all audiences, both orally and written
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a professional and collegial manner, and to build rapport with all levels of academic and professional staff within a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion
