Biodegradable Metallic Materials and Structures Research Fellow

A Research Fellow position is available at SUTD's entropic interface group (EIG) in the area of metallic materials and structural optimization for targeted biodegradation performance, with a focus on Mg-based materials development. Modelling and characterisation of Mg-alloy and Mg-oxide microstructure-property relationships, as well as quantum electrochemical modelling of metal-electrolyte interfaces, are among the responsibilities. This one-year position is co-funded by A*star in Singapore and a private company named in the "Top 10 Orthopedic Solution Providers in Europe."

An ideal candidate will be self-motivated and capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team. The following are the key tasks of this position:

• Calculating phase equilibria of Mg-alloys and Mg-oxides using commercial software

• Predicting crystal nucleation and growth mechanisms using commercial software

• Examining and confirming microstructure-property relationships

• Presenting and disseminating research results.

Requirements:

• A Ph.D. Degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering,
• Research experience with software tools such as FactSage and Thermo-calc in the investigation of phase equilibria and crystal nucleation-growth,
• Prior research experience with metal electrodes and aqueous electrolytes is a plus.
