Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Associate/Fellow to work on an additive manufacturing-based bioprinting project which is part of a University of Nottingham based Programme Grant funded by the EPSRC. The overall project aim is to develop a multimaterial additive manufacturing capability and strategies to allow the construction of cell supporting materials and structures, principally those relating to, but not exclusively, intestinal / mucosal applications.

This position will be hosted by the School of Pharmacy, in partnership with the Centre for Additive Manufacturing, at the University of Nottingham and will be part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team of projects that form a multi-site collaboration with the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick, and with a consortium of industrial partners. The project aims to develop the strategies that allow multimaterial deposition, for highly controlled and spatially differentiated direction of cell behaviour and fate. As a route to achieve this, the successful candidate will explore key additive manufacturing techniques, including ink jet printing, (projection micro-) stereolithography and two-photon polymerisation, and develop the materials needed to drive the desired function.

The School of Pharmacy has an international reputation for research evidenced through our ranking of 5th in the world in the 2021 QS World Rankings for pharmacy and pharmacology. Our portfolio of multidisciplinary research is focussed on understanding and developing treatments for some of the most complex and challenging diseases of our time. The School came joint 1st in the UK on quality of research for Pharmacy Schools in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and is the only School of Pharmacy with 100% 4*research in the 'Impact on Society’ category.

The Centre for Additive Manufacturing is a large interdisciplinary group active in the area of Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing. Comprising of around 100 academics, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students, it is one of the largest research centres for additive manufacturing and 3D printing worldwide. The Centre engages with a broad range of academics from across the UK and a significant number of industrial partners to deliver on an industrially prioritised research agenda.

Candidates must hold or expect to shortly obtain a PhD or equivalent and a Science / Engineering undergraduate degree. Candidates should be able to demonstrate practical experience of multimaterial additive manufacturing, formulation and characterisation of function. A prior experience of mammalian cell culture within the context of regenerative medicine would be helpful but is not essential.

This full time post is available from 1st June 2022 or shortly after and will be offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 24 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Felicity Rose, felicity.rose@nottingham.ac.uk or Professor Ricky Wildman, ricky.wildman@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
