Research Associate (Multiphase pore-scale experiments and simulations) in Chemical Engineering

A 20-month Research Associate position is available for an outstanding and ambitious experimental researcher at the school of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, University of Manchester – funded by ACS. The project aims to study the impact of wettability and wettability alteration in low salinity waterflooding using micromodel laboratorial experiments, microCT X-ray imaging and pore-scale modelling. The Research Associate will be based at the University of Manchester and will closely collaborate with the group of Prof Holger Steeb (Stuttgart University).

The applicant should have, or be working towards, a PhD in a porous media-related field such as hydrogeology, petroleum engineering, or civil/mechanical engineering. Expertise in microCT X-ray imaging and image processing for porous media applications, application of image processing software (e.g. Avizo, ImageJ) and excellent scientific writing are essential for this project. 

Overall Purpose of the Job

The job requires skills in the design and fabrication of optical instrumentation, software and biochemical assays.
