Tasks

The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) is one of the most renowned and largest universities in Germany. The Department of Geography and Remote Sensing at the LMU is one of Europe's leading research centers for remote sensing-based environmental modeling. 
We are seeking a scientific assistant in the field of hydrological / geoscientific modeling as part of the joint project VieWBay funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection and supported by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment. 

About us: 
We investigate dynamic processes of the land surface (water, plants, soil) with the aim of their sustainable design. Environmental models and the latest data from remote sensing are used. Within the framework of VieWBay, we deal with the precise calculation and documentation of the spatial and temporal dynamics of water and material flows in the hydrological region of Bavaria. For this purpose, extensive simulations are carried out with self-developed models. 
We offer a multidisciplinary, team-oriented and modern research environment. Special development opportunities arise from intensive international cooperation with renowned universities, business enterprises and research institutes. 

Your tasks: 
We are looking for a committed scientist with experience in the field of hydrological / geoscientific environmental modeling. The successful applicant should have knowledge in hydrological / geoscientific modeling as well as in remote sensing and geoinformatics. In terms of content, you should assist with the supervision and guidance of staff members in the development of multi - scale approaches for the spatially and temporally highly resolved (10-100 m, 1h) simulation of the hydrological land surface processes in the hydrological region of Bavaria, in the preparation and validation of the results and in the Integration of Copernicus satellite data into the modeling set new accents.

Conditions

Your requirements: 
The application requires a university degree, doctoral or equivalent services in the field of natural sciences as well as an interest in interdisciplinary research. Programming skills (eg FORTRAN, Python) and experience in the field of process-based environmental modeling are beneficial.

Your workplace is centrally located in Munich and is very easy to reach by public transport. Handicapped candidates are preferred with otherwise substantially equal suitability. The application of women is welcomed.
