Our Profile

In close cooperation with partners from industry and research, the Institute for Industrial Science of RWTH Aachen University (IAW) develops methods and tools for integrated process and work design on an organizational, technical and personal level. As a chair, we also offer numerous courses for students of various disciplines. 

Short decision-making paths and open and interdisciplinary cooperation characterize our work. In our team, we offer highly motivated university graduates the opportunity to work on research and industrial projects on current issues and to carry out a doctoral project.

Your Profile

Prerequisites for the vacancies are as follows: 
- University degree (master or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science or the like completed with above-average success. 
-Affinity on human-machine systems, automotive, electromobility, & renewable energy 
-Vorkkenntnisse in the field of prototypical implementation of applications for iOS / Android and / or web-based applications or the willingness to work there 
-First experiences in the application of Qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical research, experimental design as well as inference statistical test procedures 
-Very good English and German language skills in spoken and written
-Ability and readiness for independent, scientifically sound processing of scientific questions from industry and research 
-Freude of interdisciplinary, open and dynamic teamwork- 
willingness to travel within Germany

Your Tasks

Integrated in the department "Ergonomics and Human-Machine-Systems", you are significantly involved in an application-oriented research project together with a German OEM in the premium segment of the automotive industry. 
Here, the focus is on the development of innovative applications for mobile information and communication technology with the goal, among other things, of making the charging process of electric vehicles, depending on the availability of renewable energies, smarter by the end user. Controlled charging makes an effective contribution to the stability of electricity grids and to the optimized use of regenerative energies.
For the realization of concepts of controlled loading, an interaction interface for humans is required, which is to be developed by human-centered design activities, for example according to DIN EN ISO 9241-210. This includes capturing the user context, building on this the determination of the usage requirements and the iterative development and evaluation of design solutions for the fulfillment of the usage requirements in close cooperation with the partners from industry and research. 
In order to ensure the practice-oriented provision of the concrete solution concepts for all actors involved in research and industry, you present the results at national and international specialist events in the form of lectures and workshops.
In addition, you support the chair in the implementation of the courses and the organization of examinations and participate in the acquisition of third-party funds by participating in research sketches and applications.

Our Range

Recruitment is in the employment relationship. 
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and limited to 2 years. A further employment of at least 1 year is planned. 
This is a full time position. 
There is a doctoral option. 
The position is rated with TV-L EG 13.
