Job summary

The post of Research Associate in Robotics and Systems Engineering is funded by a Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Early Detection Committee – Innovation Award. The award catalyses new multidisciplinary collaborations to drive forward earlier detection of cancer.

The post is of pivotal importance to a team effort between the universities of Aberystwyth, Bath, UCL, Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, for the development of a novel approach for early cancer detection.

Duties and responsibilities

You will undertake project management and work alongside a multidisciplinary team of mechanical engineers, computer scientists, mechatronics engineers, roboticists, data scientists and clinicians. The key objective of the research work is the development and validation of a new sensing modality and a respective medical device, for early detection of gastrointestinal cancer.

Essential requirements

You will be encouraged to explore and develop new methodologies and devices that extend the capabilities of minimally invasive cancer diagnosis and therapy. This will include the allied technologies of sensing, imaging, rigid and soft robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

In addition, you will be expected to submit publications to high-impact refereed journals and conferences, and to co-develop alongside the investigators follow-on research funding proposals
