The School of Engineering and Information Technology (SEIT) offers a flexible, friendly working environment that is well-resourced and delivers research-informed education as part of its accredited, globally recognised engineering and computing degrees to its undergraduate students. The School offers programs in electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and civil engineering as well as in aviation, information technology and cyber security to graduates and professionals who will be Australia’s future technology decision makers.

SEIT have two (2) Research Associate positions available.  The Research Associate positions within SEIT will work on a research project in wirelessly networked systems. The successful candidates will report to The Chief Investigator (CI) of the project. These positions will involve research activity in multidisciplinary settings requiring skills in Computer Networks and Operating Systems, setting up networking testbeds and using programming languages, with a good understanding of wireless systems and their cybersecurity aspects. The successful candidates will contribute to the development of research results and their publication in international journals, participate at a national and/or international conference/s.  Where negotiated with the project CI and Head of School, the successful candidates may undertake teaching responsibilities as appropriate.

About the Roles:

Role:                       Research Associates in Networked Systems
Salary:                    Academic Level A $98,342 - $105, 185 plus 17% Superannuation

Employment type: Full time, 35 hrs per week or Part time, minimum 21hrs per week      

Term:                     Fixed Term appointment up to 2 years

Our Ideal Candidates:

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Hold a PhD in a computer science, preferably with a focus on networked systems.
  • Have experience with open-source networking and software data packets processing frameworks, such as Floodlight, Click modular router, and ONOS.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to develop networking applications for computers and commodity hardware.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills appropriate for interacting effectively team members, collaborators and colleagues across the faculty.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team showing initiative and taking direction as appropriate to the situation.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to complete tasks within agreed time frames, with suitable supervision.
