Applications are invited for a Research Associate (RA) position within the Control and Power Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The RA will lead the technical effort to investigate the resilient control and operation of energy systems under cyber network failures and attacks. The post will be supported by two going research projects “Socio-Techno-Economic Pathways for Sustainable Urban Energy Development” and “Technology Transformation to Support Flexible and Resilient Local Energy Systems”. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.

Duties and responsibilities

The RA is expected to develop novel methods to identify the interdependency between energy systems and cyber network, to quantify the cyber-induced risks in energy systems and to maintain the resilient operation of energy systems under cyber contingency. The RA will also be responsible for the dissemination of research outputs in academic journal publications and at international conferences, and the engagement with project partners for collaboration. Involvement in teaching activities is not mandatory but there will be teaching opportunities (e.g. UG and PG supervision) during the project if the candidate is interested. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.

Essential requirements

The successful candidate should have completed or be near completion of a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field. Applicants should have strong experience in cybersecurity of energy systems and communication networks, evidenced by high-quality publications in related journals. Excellent verbal communication skills are also required, together with the ability to deal with a wide range of people and to write clearly for academic and non-academic audiences.

Further information

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,447 - £38,566 per annum.
