Research Associate in Bioinformatics

A post is available for an experienced Computer Scientist or Bioinformatician to support the work of the Schofield research group who are engaged in the development and application of computational methods to relate human disease phenotypes to genotypes. The purpose of the work, which is funded by the Alan Turing Institute, is to develop and assess semantic and syntactic integration strategies to produce a formal environment in which multidimentional healthcare data can be integrated with research-led databases to support a higher level of understanding of disease which traditional clinical reasoning and expert practice is unable to achieve. There will be an opportunity to work with other members of the Turing Institute and to access its resources.

The main responsibilities of the post will include: - Data capture from electronic health records and normalisation of textual components; - Formalising and linking EHR data to deep background data in public databases using formal ontology, automated reasoning and machine learning; - Ontology and clinical terminology alignment and mapping; - Knowledge graph building; - Working with NGS human sequence data; - Preparation of data and analyses for publication; - Presentation of seminars and talks; - Support of other group members in the area of computation and data analysis.

The successful applicant should have a post-graduate degree (or about to obtain one) in biomedical sciences, computer science or mathematics and have experience of the elements listed above.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
