Job Summary

We are excited to offer a new global opportunity to work with some of the leading researchers in the world developing novel machine learning hardware.


Imperial College has teamed up with the University of Toronto, the University of California Los Angeles and the University of Southampton to launch a new Centre for Spatial Computational Learning spatialml.net. The centre is funded by the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and works in partnership with a variety of leading industrial partners. Our aim is to bridge hardware, software and theory, to develop new highly-efficient algorithms and architectures that naturally compute over space as well as time.


Duties and responsibilities

The centre is aiming to recruit two full-time members of research staff, one based at Imperial College and one based at Southampton. Researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate across the remit of the Centre and will aim to spend some time each year working at one of the international partner institutions developing and deepening our collaborations. Appointees will have considerable freedom to help define medium-term research objectives within the remit of the Centre. Essential requirements

  • A strong research track record in at least one of the following contributing areas of expertise:Ability and desire to travel and collaborate internationally
    • Software or algorithm development for deep learning
    • Computer arithmetic
    • FPGA circuit design
    • Compiler design
    • Data-center infrastructure
    • Run-time adaptation /self-aware software


*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £34,397 - £37,486 per annum.
