Job summary

The laboratory of Prof Aldo Faisal (UKRI Turing AI Fellow & Director, UKRI Centre in AI for Healthcare) is seeking a Research Assistant / Associate in software engineering to contribute to our AI work in Healthcare projects by transforming research software into software tools for clinical and patient deployment.

We have a set of digital healthcare technologies, wearables, state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms, secure and privacy-preserving technologies, and patient/clinical staff front-ends which are already deployed in clinical trials.

Duties and responsibilities

We are seeking this post to help develop and structure the software architectures towards deployment in the real word, such as the NHS. We explicitly encourage all our team members to contribute actively to our research projects and grow their expertise by acquiring new skills (e.g. machine learning for a software engineer).

The post is funded as part of an Imperial Health Charity award and is in close collaboration with Dr Paul Bentley MD (Hammersmith Hospital).

Essential requirements

    • Research Associate: a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field
    • Research Assistant: a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field
    • Knowledge of a broad range of software engineering techniques, such as Python/iOS/Android/Database programming, user interfaces, and cloud-computing.
    • Prior experience in digital healthcare or machine learning is not required but desirable.
    • Excellent communication skills and be able to organise your own work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines

This position is Full-time, Fixed term to start ASAP for 16 months with the possibility for extension

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £36,045 - £39,183 per annum.
