Research Assistant in Integrated Transport Planning

Technical University Berlin

Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty V - Institute of Land and Sea Transport Systems / Chair of Integrated Transport Planning

Research assistant - 0.5 working time - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

Working field:

Within the framework of the research project NahMob, which is supported by the Nationaler Radverkehrsplan (NRVP) of the BMVI, a local mobility concept for a highly dense urban quarter (Wrangelkiez) in Berlin Kreuzberg will be developed and implemented in a participatory manner. The specific requirements of civil society on the one hand and of local politics and planning on the other hand will be taken into account and subsequently a concrete implementation concept will be drafted, which will clearly focus on the redesign of the urban district in a way that promotes mobility. The initial aim is to identify the general and target group-specific demands on infrastructures that support walking and cycling. Through close cooperation with the district, the requirements and ideas collected can be directly incorporated into the subsequent concept implementation. As a result, the identified demands of the local stakeholders will be contextualised with the possibilities of municipal design and formalised in the form of a guideline for the design of neighbourhoods that promote mobility. The chosen study area in Berlin Kreuzberg is characterised by a particularly active civil society, which has already developed its own concepts for the car-free redesign of the urban district (Autofrei Wrangelkiez). Municipal politics is also open to the idea of redesigning the urban space in favour of cycling and walking, which is why this project offers the rare opportunity to bring together the central actors for local mobility under scientific supervision.

The working field includes:
  • conception and organisation of a representative survey in the Wrangelkiez
  • actor analysis and implementation of focus group discussions
  • carrying out an environmental analysis in the area under investigation
  • organization and implementation of several participation workshops
  • publishing the results in professional journals and conference proceedings
  • communication with local stakeholders and project partners
  • project implementation, documentation and organisation, as well as communication with the project management agency, the funding agency and the research department of Technische Universität Berlin
