Research Assistant / Associate in Analysis and Control of Large Scale Networks

One or more positions exist for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge to work in the area of analysis and control of large scale networks. The positions will be funded by an ERC (European Research Council) grant.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge Cambridgeshire, UK.

The aim of the project is to do fundamental research in the area network analysis and control, focusing on the development of decentralized stability/performance conditions, with the results validated via applications in power system/smart grid/power electronics models.

The key responsibilities and duties are to carry out research in the area of analysis and control of large scale networks and to write research publications and attend conferences.

Applicants with one of the following backgrounds will be considered:

(i) A background in mathematics with experience in rigorously formulating novel concepts of interest.

(ii) Control Theory (nonlinear systems or/and robust control or/and convex optimization).

(iii) An engineer with a power systems or/and power electronics background. A background in all of the above areas is not necessary and applicants with either a mathematics or engineering background are encouraged to apply. Applicants with interests in biological networks will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,715 - £30,942 Research Associate: £32,816 - £40,322

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 July 2021 in the first instance.
