The Department of Computing Science in the School of Computing Science, Business Administration, Economics and Law (School II) invites applications for a

Professorship (W1, Tenure-track) (m/f/d) in Data Science

as soon as possible. If the candidate meets the terms and conditions of applicable employment laws, the initial appointment granting temporary civil servant status will be for a period of three years. Given a successful evaluation in the third year, employment will be renewed for another three years. Conditional on fulfilling the relevant statutory provisions at the end of this fixed term, the position is converted into a permanent position at associate professorship level (German pay scale W2).

We are looking for a promising scientist with an outstanding international track record in practical computer science. The core of the professorship is the combination of data analysis methods, e.g. from the field of deep learning, with database technologies and statistical analysis techniques. Of particular interest are the subject areas:

  • Large Scale Data Analytics
  • Data Mining in large unstructured data sets
  • Large (standard and non-standard) databases and information systems
  • Parallel and distributed learning on large amounts of data
  • Data flow management and complex-event processing

The candidate is expected to have relevant teaching experience and is further expected to participate in teaching bachelor and master courses in computer science in German and English.

Proven experience in the acquisition and execution of third-party funded projects is expected. An integration into the research agenda of the university is expected, in particular through contributions to the university's research center "Human-Cyber-Physical Systems: Safety, Acceptance, Social and Cultural Embeddedness". There are excellent opportunities for networking at the University of Oldenburg for basic and applied research. In addition, the research institute OFFIS offers excellent opportunities in application-oriented research.

Candidates should be willing to actively participate in the university's self-administration.

The prerequisites of employment are specified in Section30 NHG. To increase the proportion of women in science, equally qualified female candidates will be given preference.
