The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for a vacant position for a

Professor (W3) of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering

commencing in winter term 2020/2021.

For the Chair of Traffic Planning and Traffic Engineering, a nationally and internationally scientifically proven personality for research and teaching is sought who has outstanding technical knowledge and comprehensive practical engineering experience in traffic planning and traffic engineering.

Applicants should represent the subject comprehensively in research and teaching and demonstrate excellent knowledge in several of the following subject areas:

  • Transport planning and traffic management, e.g: methods of integrated network planning, access planning and traffic development planning. Design of multimodal transport systems with references to urban and regional research. Design of transport supply, demand management, incident management.
  • New technologies and digitization, e.g.: functional, digital, institutional integration of transport systems. Road traffic technology. New transport systems, mobility services and information systems. Sensors and systems for traffic monitoring.
  • Transport, environment and health, e.g: contributions to climate protection, noise protection and air pollution control. Environment-responsive traffic control. Impacts of traffic on human health.

A further focus, e.g. on local transport and micro mobility, in research and teaching is desired.

The readiness for national and international cooperation and interdisciplinary work within the current and future research priorities of the department as well as with other departments is required. The person has to actively participate in the teaching of the department in German and English language through basic subjects and research-oriented advanced subjects. For the interdisciplinary master program in Transportation, the person must also perform tasks in the area of program management. The application of new forms of teaching and learning is desired.

The prerequisites are a completed engineering degree with subsequent, qualified doctorate at a university, followed by several years of research and development work, management and leadership experience, didactic and pedagogical aptitude, very good knowledge of German and English as well as the willingness to work in academic self-administration.

The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German "W-Besoldung" and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. The regulations for employment are specified under §§ 61 and 62 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
