Professor of Power Electronics

The Faculty of Electrical and Information Engineering of Graz University of Technology is seeking to
appoint a full professor of

Power Electronics

at the Electric Drives and Machines Institute, prospectively starting on October 1, 2020. The position,
under private law, comes with a fixed-term employment contract, according to Section 98 of the Austrian
University Act (§98 UG).

For this position, we are seeking a highly qualified and scientifically well-established individual who is
deeply committed to representing the field of Power Electronics both in teaching and in research.

Research within this internationally growing field is currently being conducted at several of the faculty’s
institutes. The university is seeking to further expand and reinforce its existing capacities by means of
this professorship. The increasing emphasis on this field within the local industry provides an excellent
opportunity to advance the international position of TU Graz. The expertise of the applicants must cover
at least two of the following areas:

 Modelling, simulation, characterization and design of power electronic devices, systems and their
 Development and application of power electronic devices (e.g., wide band gap, such as SiC,
 Reliable and smart power electronics (e.g., design for reliability).
 Power electronic systems’ aspects such as stability, harmonic mitigation and efficiency.
 Power electronics applications in energy generation, transmission and distribution.
 Topologies for solid state energy conversion (e.g., multilevel).
 System integration of power electronics.
 Control of power electronic devices and systems.

Integrating into the research areas of the faculty and the Graz University of Technology is as welcome
as cooperating with other universities and research institutions as well as with the surrounding and
international industry. The environment of Graz University of Technology offers numerous opportunities
for cooperation. Numerous industrial companies in the field of power electronics are located in the
vicinity of Graz University of Technology and the largest investment in Europe in the production of
semiconductor components is being made in the region. The research center Silicon Austria Labs
located on the campus of Graz University of Technology.

In terms of teaching, both the fundamentals as well as areas of specialization of power electronics are
to be represented. Previous experience in and the willingness to pursue interdisciplinary collaboration,
as well as intensive interaction with students and an active participation in university affairs are

Applicants must have earned a doctorate (Ph.D.) in the required engineering discipline or in a closely
related field from an Austrian or equivalent foreign university.

Additionally preferred competencies:
 Outstanding scientific qualifications (as evidenced by a habilitation degree or equivalent scientific
 Several years of work experience in the field
 Excellent didactic skills
 Qualification and suitability for developing and leading a research group
 Gender and diversity competencies

The chosen applicant should have a strong command of the English language, written and spoken, so
as to effectively represent and communicate the subject matter in an international context both in the
classroom and in the research field. If the candidate does not yet have sufficient knowledge of the
German language, he or she must be willing to pursue and acquire said language skills.

The chosen applicant is expected to relocate his or her main residence to the Graz area.
