The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Helsinki is seeking a University Teacher in Molecular Biosciences and Biochemistry for a four-year fixed-term position.
The primary responsibility is research-based teaching and tasks related to the planning and implementation of teaching in both the Bachelor’s Programme in Finnish and the Master’s Programme in Genetics and Molecular Biosciences in English (approximately 70–90% of annual working time).
Present key concepts in biochemistry and molecular biosciences
Teach advanced topics related to recent advances in basic research and current methods (e.g., biochemistry, structural biology, enzymology, chemical biology, molecular biotechnology)
Assist professors and lecturers in preparation and implementation of courses
Teach courses coordinated by other instructors and act as the teacher in charge of selected lectures and laboratory courses
Integrate into the department’s research community
Supervise students and evaluate theses
Create connections to working life and support students’ career skills
Actively participate in the development of teaching, utilizing student feedback and developing new teaching and evaluation methods
Promote interactive, student-centered, and online teaching methods
Collaborate on joint teaching projects and foster learning environments that develop students’ critical thinking, application of knowledge, and problem-solving skills
Required: Suitable Master’s degree and experience in teaching

Teaching experience
Ability to produce learning material for online teaching
Versatile teaching skills
Experience coordinating online studies
Doctoral degree and research experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, enzymology, or synthetic chemistry
Teaching Skills:
Must be at least “good” level according to the Rector's decision (9.9.2022)
Teaching skills assessed relative to the biochemistry and molecular biology curriculum of the Bachelor’s Programme in Molecular Biosciences
Assessment based on faculty matrix and teaching demonstration
Language Skills:
Proficiency in Finnish and English
Satisfactory oral and written skills in Swedish to evaluate theses and assignments
Based on the universities’ teaching and research staff pay system (level 4–5)
Additional component based on personal performance
Approximate total salary: €3,400–4,200 per month
