In response to the call for proposals under the Canada Research Chairs (CRC)

Program, the Faculty of Engineering of the Université de Sherbrooke is seeking
candidatures to fill a faculty position in the field of energy for a Tier 2 CRC. This is
a regular, full-time position.
The field of energy is one of the six principal research orientations of the Faculty
of Engineering. It is a component of the Université de Sherbrooke federative
theme "Climate changes and environment".

The Chairholder's home department shall be determined based on their expertise
and direction of their research program.

The candidates' expertise must be related to field of energy, which can be
investigated through a variety of research perspectives, such as the production of
energy, storing devices, preservation of energy, and energy management. The
Faculty of Engineering benefits from major installations wich allow research in all
these areas.

The candidates sought are new researchers recognized by their peers as having
potential or for their achievements in their field. The candidates must propose a
promising, innovative research program of the highest quality, while
demonstrating interest and competency in teaching.

The successful candidate will be selected by a selection committee according to
the following criteria:

• Scientific relevance of the proposal.
• Structuring impact of the proposal with respect to the research themes of
the Faculty of Engineering and its programs.
• Candidate's match with the directions of the Faculty of Engineering.
• Given the pool of potential candidates, the person's contribution to achieving
institutional targets with respect to equity and diversity, in particular only
applications from members of visible and ethnic minorities or persons with

In accordance with the diversity and equity objectives, career interruptions for

Candidates who received their doctorates more than 10 years ago and who had a
career interruption (e.g., parental, family, or medical leave) must have their

 Teach at all three levels.
 Supervise graduate and doctoral students.
 Develop fundamental and applied research activities.
 Take part in university life.
 Contribute to community service.


 Hold a doctorate in a discipline deemed relevant for 10 years or less
(see Career Interruptions herein for possible exemptions).
 Comply with the requirements of the Canada Research Chairs
Program – Tier 2.
 Have a marked interest in university pedagogy and teaching as well
as for research, development, and innovation.
 Demonstrate good ability to supervise graduate students.
 Have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals of international
standing, testifying to an excellent research record.
 Demonstrate skills in establishing and maintaining good
interpersonal relations, a sense of collaboration, and teamwork
 Demonstrate qualities of leadership and initiative as well as
outstanding skills in communicating and effectively and
harmoniously interacting with various internal and external partners.
 The successful candidate must be able to teach in French or be
able to do so in short order.
 Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or have the
required qualifications to become member as soon as possible.
 Experience in interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or transdisciplinary
research as well as in knowledge transfer will be considered an

The working conditions are governed by the collective agreement in
effect. Regular, full-time position. Anticipated start date: April 2020. The
term of the Tier 2 Chair is five years and is renewable once for another
period of five years upon examination of the incumbent's record. The
appointment is subject to Canada Research Chairs Program assessment
and final approval. Candidates who are not selected for the Chair may be
invited to fill other positions also leading to tenure in the field of energy.
