JOB PURPOSE/ SUMMARY:

To provide strategic and operational direction to the respective academic programme.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching

  • Provides strategic and operational direction to the respective academic programme;
  • Prepares and delivers lectures to students within prescribed curriculum;
  • Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments
  • Performs related duties such as advising students on academic curricula, and acting as adviser to student organizations;

Research

  • Conducts research in particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals;
  • Leads and directs research of other academic staff and / or graduate students working for advanced academic degrees;
  • Guides research team, administers, supervises and manages research projects, and supports the development of emerging research profiles from other lecturers;
  • Submits grant applications to support the University’s goals in consultation with Programme Head or other Academic Staff and the University’s office responsible for grant funding;
  • Engages in peer review activities as required;
  • Contributes to the collegiate development and management of research activities;

Service

  • Participates in the Personal Tutor programme (or acts as a personal tutor and, where required.);
  • Provides professional consulting services to government and industry according to the regulations of UTT;
  • Provides relevant service to the University and national community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • An earned PhD in Computer Science and/or Electrical Engineering from an accredited and recognised University/Professional Institution;
  • A minimum of 6 years teaching experience as an Associate Professor or equivalent or 12 years’ research/industry experience in one or more of the following areas: software engineering / architectures, operating systems, programming languages, wireless communications, networking, and cybersecurity (including Data Protection, Hacking, Security and Cryptography, Policy Management, Audit Security and Compliance), at least 8 of which should be at the senior management level;

AND

  • Supervision of a minimum of 25 Master’s students or 15 postgraduate students to completion, at least 3 of which should be at the MPhil/doctoral level or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 160 scholarly output points of which at least 120 should be from refereed scholarly journals or other scholarly outputs relevant to the candidate’s academic discipline;
