Professor in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering – Specialization in Biomaterials

Located in the heart of Québec City—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—Université Laval offers an exceptional living and working environment. It is a major comprehensive university renowned for its culture of excellence in both teaching and research.


Context

The Department of Mining, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Université Laval is inviting applications for a tenure-track faculty position in materials and metallurgical engineering with a specialization in biomaterials.

  • The Department includes 16 faculty members

  • Supervises approx. 300 undergraduate and 100 graduate students

  • Offers B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs in:

    • Mining and mineral processing engineering

    • Materials and metallurgical engineering


Position Description

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong research background in materials and metallurgical engineering, specializing in biomaterials

  • Possess relevant teaching experience

  • Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Develop an innovative and well-funded research program in biomaterials that complements the department’s strengths


Selection Criteria

The successful candidate must:

  • Hold a bachelor's and a doctoral degree in materials engineering or a related field

  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (P.Eng.), or commit to becoming a member within 2 years of starting

  • Be able to teach in French or commit to becoming proficient within 3 years

Candidates will be evaluated based on:

  • Quality of academic training

  • Research, tech transfer, and scientific leadership experience

  • Teaching experience and potential

  • Achievements in biomaterials engineering

  • Fit with the position and departmental needs

  • Integration and synergy potential with current faculty


Salary and Benefits

  • Academic rank will be determined by experience

  • Salary set per the collective agreement in effect at the time of hiring
