We are seeking a principal research scientist in the field of manufacturing robotics and 3D technologies. You will work at HAMK Tech, which is one of the four research units at Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK).

HAMK Tech focuses on applied research and development within the field of the metal and building industry, combining expertise in chemistry, mechanical engineering, construction engineering, electrical and automation engineering as well as energy technology. We now aim to strengthen our operations within the fields of robotics and 3D technologies, with a target to support industrial companies in their efforts to renew their design and manufacturing methods. We carry out research and development activities in publicly funded projects and projects commissioned by companies.

Job description

The tasks of a principal research scientist are to:

  • lead the research, development and innovation activities in his/her area
  • build, lead and develop a research group
  • explore new R&D possibilities and initiate new R&D projects
  • conduct R&D activities in publicly funded projects and publish scientific articles
  • build and lead commissioned R&D activities within his/her area
  • collaborate in national and international research and education networks
  • participate in the teaching activities in the relevant degree programmes and in continuing education.

We offer you a competitive salary, good working environment and the possibility to develop your competence. The position is initially filled for a fixed term until 30 June 2022. A possible continuation will be agreed on later. The position starts by separate agreement at the earliest possible date.
The position will be based in Hämeenlinna or Riihimäki, Finland.

We expect from you:

  • A PhD or other applicable post-graduate degree in robotics, information technology, electrical and automation engineering, mechanical engineering or in a relevant field within automation and robotics or 3D technologies
  • Experience in the field of robotics or 3D technologies (e.g. 3D scanning, 3D printing or AR/ VR technologies) is an advantage
  • A proven track record in research cooperation with companies and in successful research projects
  • Experience in working in an international context and the ability to work successfully in a multicultural and a multidisciplinary team
  • Proactive approach to work
  • Fluent English as a working language

The qualification requirements for a principal research scientist at a university of applied sciences in Finland are in accordance with Decree 1129/2014, Section 17. He/ she is also required to have 60 credits or 35 study weeks of pedagogical studies. Notwithstanding this, a principal research scientist may be recruited on the condition that he/she will complete the required pedagogical studies within three years from the start of his/her employment. We also consider applicants who are currently pursuing their post-graduate studies. In this case the initial position will be either senior lecturer or adjunct research scientist.
