The UCI Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering is currently accepting applications for a translational postdoctoral scholar for Prof. Kyriacos Athanasiou’s lab (http://engineering.uci.edu/users/kyriacos-athanasiou). The main research objectives for this position is to continue existing large animal work in regenerating the TMJ disc using the minipig large animal model.
The individual is expected to conduct research in the area of TMJ disc tissue engineering. Expertise in the use of the minipig model, including surgical, handling, rehabilitation, and knowledge of the similarities and differences between the minipig model and humans is required. Expertise in tissue engineering, cell culture, histological, and biochemical techniques are also required. Furthermore, familiarity with the FDA regulatory framework, including requirements for IND/IDE submission, is highly desired. Duties will include designing experiments and conducting independent research in the minipig model, preparing study results for publication, and supervising/training graduate and undergraduate students in proper laboratory research techniques and record-keeping.
Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Prior work with biomechanical modeling is highly desired. It is expected that the candidate will be comfortable initiating projects independently. Excellent verbal and communications skills in the English language are required.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and years of experience.
