The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. The postdoctoral scholar position is in the area of multifunctional infrastructure materials and structures, and advance manufacturing and sensing methods. The ideal candidate should have knowledge and background in one or a combination of the following fields:

  • Novel and functional infrastructure materials
  • Electrical impedance spectroscopy and tomography
  • 3D printing and additive manufacturing of concrete materials and structures
  • Cement or geopolymer chemistry, materials science and mechanics
  • Reinforced concrete large-scale structure testing

The postdoctoral scholar will work with Professor Mo Li ( and her research group to conduct a number of federal- and state-funded interdisciplinary research projects to address challenges at the interfaces of novel infrastructure materials, advanced manufacturing and sensing methods for structures. Initial appointment will be for a 12-month or 24-month period, renewable subject to performance and continuation of project funding. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in civil engineering, structural engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited university. The candidate should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, intellectual ability to independently conduct creative research, multitasking capability, and a strong commitment to teamwork.
