The Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee to work under the supervision of Professor James Demmel.

Appointment Length:
This is a full-time, one-year position. The appointment may be renewable depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Anticipated start date is Fall 2020.

Research responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop automatic performance tuning (autotuning) software tools for scientific codes to be executed on exascale machines.
  • Collaborate with the developers from the other Exascale Computing Project funded software technology projects. Collaborate with domain scientists
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary team involving mathematicians, computer scientists, and domain scientists to integrate the newly developed autotuning tools into the application codes.
  • Optimize the codes on emerging supercomputers built from multi- and manycore processors.
  • Document work and results in the form of journal papers and conference proceedings.
  • Present work and results at scientific meetings.

Basic Qualifications:
Must have an advanced degree or be enrolled in an advanced degree program at time of application.

Additional Qualifications (By Start Date):
• PhD degree or equivalent international degree.
• The candidate should have no more than four years of post-degree research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Computational Science, or in a related field.
• Knowledge of statistical learning and machine learning techniques.
• Demonstrated coding experience on large scale parallel machines.
• Proven experience in parallel programming in high-level languages, such as Python, C/C++, MPI, and OpenMP.
• Proven consensus builder in a highly collaborative environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The full-time annual salary will be commensurate with experience. Additionally, the candidate will receive health benefits with this position.
