Postdoctoral Researcher starting 1.3.2020 or as soon as possible thereafter in initially for two years, with a possibility to extend to three years

The Hybrid Quantum Technologies group seeks a talented postdoctoral researcher who is interested to work in the fields of optomechanics and spin quantum information to join the group. The researcher will work in ERC Starting Grant funded project “Optomechanical quantum bus for spins in silicon” where the goal is to couple silicon optomechanical systems with spin qubits.

The group studies new ways to combine different quantum systems on-chip, especially concentrating on coupling spins with photonic and mechanical degrees of freedom in silicon. The motivation for the research is both in enabling practical quantum sensors and quantum computing components and in probing fundamental physics in these on-chip quantum physics test-beds. Our experimental tool-set includes optical and electrical measurements at low-temperatures as well as advanced nanofabrication.

The project will require the candidate to master a combination of advanced optical and microwave measurement methods at low temperatures, strong theoretical understanding of the physics involved (spin qubits, optomechanics, nanophotonics), skills in numerical modelling (Python or Matlab preferred) and FEM modelling (COMSOL). Preferably, the candidate would already know some of these but rest should be learned during the project. The selected researcher should be able to guide PhD and MSc students and drive the project forward.

We expect that the candidates have a doctoral degree (or be close to getting one) in physics or engineering sciences and must have research experience in international environment. We seek a highly motivated candidate with relevant experience, preferably in (solid-state) quantum information, quantum optics, nanophotonics or other AMO physics. Theorists within these fields with affinity to get involved into experiments are also encouraged to apply.

The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.

The annual salary range will be approximately 39,000 – 55,000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

There is a trial period of six months at the start of the period of employment.
