A postdoctoral research position is available in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics at Drexel University.



* Must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or related field with previous experience with flow systems, biochemical assays, and in vitro cell culture. 
* Experience with animal models and mass spectrometry is preferred. 
* Experience writing proposals and journal articles is essential. 
* Successful applicants are expected to work independently and to be self-motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
* Part of the project may take require working in a collaborator's laboratory; therefore the ability to live in a location other than Philadelphia for some period of time is essential. 


Essential Functions

The post-doctoral research associate position involves studying endothelial cell metabolism in different mechanical environments. The candidate will develop procedures to determine how different blood flow regimes affect endothelial cell metabolism of glucose and other metabolites. This will include designing and testing novel flow devices and characterizing cellular responses using biochemical assays such as mass spectrometry, Western blot, qRT-PCR, and immunofluorescent microscopy. In addition, the post-doctoral fellow will investigate how endothelial metabolism affects critical vascular functions, such as vasodilation and inflammation, both ex vivo and in vivo.
