Job Overview

Drexel University's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. 

A postdoctoral opportunity is available with our collaborative research team, who is developing exciting new thermoset chemistries and tools for advanced manufacturing. We are looking for an energetic individual to help develop numerical models that capture the physics of different additive manufacturing techniques while accounting for thermoset kinetics. The models will focus on the spatial gradients in temperature, stress, and curing kinetics. The research team works in collaboration with Profs. Nicolas J. Alvarez and Giuseppe R. Palmese. 


Key components of our synthesis efforts are (1) the chemorheological characterization of new materials for the development of models and manufacturing processes and (2) integrating controlled thermoset curing with new processes, designed to incorporate reinforcement materials for advanced composite manufacturing. Our current team consists of polymer scientists, mechanical engineers, and chemical engineers. The team also includes six graduate students, whom postdoctoral candidates are expected to assist in mentoring.



Candidates should have (i) a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields, (ii) experience in designing laboratory equipment, scattering, and rheological and/or solid mechanics characterization, and (iii) a strong background in computational fluid dynamics. 

This position is available starting immediately. The appointment will be for an initial period of one year with extension conditional on satisfactory performance.

Essential Functions

Utilize filament stretching rheometers and novel spinning and fiber line instrumentation to develop fundamental rheology-spinning relationships. Collaborate with PhD student, and other group members. Travel to industrial sponsor and other collaborative partners will be required. 

Perform other duties as assigned.
