About This Opportunity

The current position will focus upon understanding and modelling the characteristics of gas-particle flow in the process of pulverised coal conveying and combustion, and their effects on process performance and erosion of the injection lance and tuyere of blast furnace. In expectation, this project will combine CFD and DEM methods to simulate the complicated multiscale/multiphase flow and erosion process in PCI lance and tuyere.

Specifically, this position will focus on (1) developing a 3D model to simulate the gas-particle flow in the lance and tuyere which can be extended with considering the thickness of wall by including a few sub-models such as cohesive force model, erosion model, and deposit formation model; (2) developing and implementing a coupling method to integrate the sub- models above with heat and mass transfer models to obtain a detailed knowledge of erosion and deposit mechanisms in PCI conveying system; (3) enhancing knowledge of pulverised coal conveying and combustion; and (4) publishing high-impact publications/presentations to promote the development in computational particle technology.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow with strong background in the fields of chemical and metallurgical engineering, particularly ironmaking and steelmaking, and associated numerical modelling to work with an ARC and industry jointly funded project related to the computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method (CFD/DEM) simulation of pulverized coal injection (PCI) into ironmaking blast furnace.

This is a full-time fixed term position at academic level A. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $83,627.77-$92,782.26 plus super of up to 17%.
