Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Molecular Biology

 We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Assistant interested in studying the regulation of expression of human snRNA genes to join Professor Shona Murphy’s group based at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology.

The postholder will be responsible for managing their own academic research and adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques and experimental protocols. You will work with limited supervision to identify, develop, modify and apply the necessary techniques to achieve the goals of the project. The postholder should be able to present detailed research proposals to senior researchers, undertake comprehensive and systematic literature reviews and write up the results for publication in peer-reviewed journals as well as represent the research group at external meetings/seminars. You will also be responsible for overseeing the daily housekeeping of the laboratory and performing any other comparable duties as may be required to ensure the efficient running of the laboratory.

The postholder should hold, or be close to completion of, PhD/DPhil in molecular biology, biochemistry or relevant subject. You should also have specialist knowledge of snRNA gene transcription, RNA processing and transcriptional cyclin-dependent kinases as well as good publication record and ability to bring new research to publication. First author papers in high-profile scientific journals, good communication skills and experience/expertise in advanced molecular biology techniques and experimentation are essential.
