General Description

The Johns Hopkins University expects to fill multiple postdoctoral scholar positions in the areas of quantum materials and quantum information science. The positions expected to be available are:

1. Postdoc within the PARADIM Bulk Crystal Growth Facility.  The Platform for the Accelerated Realization, Analysis, and Discovery of Interface Materials (PARADIM), a National Science Foundation Materials Innovation Platform developing the next generation of electronic and quantum materials, is looking for a postdoctoral scholar to carry out research projects focusing on understanding the correlated electronic phases of matter and develop and deploy the planned ultrahigh pressure laser pedestal growth capability. The successful candidate will have significant experience in both growth of single crystals and characterization of structural, transport, magnetic, and thermodynamic properties. Experience in growing crystals under extreme environment (High pressure) is favorable. The successful candidate is also expected to aid the Research scientist in regular operation of the PARADIM facility as well as users when necessary.  At the end of postdoctoral appointment, the candidate with good standing will be considered for a permanent research scientist position in PARADIM.

2. Postdoc within the C2QA QISE Materials Development Team. The Co-design Center for Quantum Advantage (C2QA) is a newly funded, 5-year, $115 million dollar quantum information science and engineering (QISE) effort led by Brookhaven National Laboratory. The McQueen laboratory is part of the C2QA new materials team, and is looking for a postdoctoral scholar to carry out research projects focusing on the development of new materials for QISE applications. The successful candidate will have significant experience in the growth of crystalline materials, and the characterization of physical properties, particularly those relevant to QISE. Experience with Density Functional Theory (DFT) and related computational techniques, particularly to guide materials selection and design, is favorable.


In all cases, the successful candidates must be capable of integrating with highly collaborative research teams, and have a demonstrated track record of success in independent scientific research. A recent Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline is required.  Strong applicants will exhibit significant basic science understanding, motivation, and an ability to originate, carry out, and publish significant original research in collaboration with their JHU mentors. Strong written and verbal English language skills are required.
