Job Description

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a full-time faculty position. Qualified candidates at all levels will be considered at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments. We seek a candidate to build a reputable independent research program in materials science and engineering. All contemporary areas of materials science and engineering are of interest. These include but are not limited to, metamaterials, multifunctional materials, phase change materials, photovoltaic materials, materials for extreme environments, nano-composites, design for additively manufactured materials, piezoelectric materials, materials for healthcare, biomedical, energy conversion, harvesting and storage applications, applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to materials engineering, and behavior of materials. Other sub-areas of expertise within the general area will also be considered. The successful candidate will develop and lead a sustainable, innovative, independent research program, will publish impactful research in top-ranked, field-related refereed journals, and will build reputation nationally and internationally to elevate UAEU’s international reputation. The successful candidate will have strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and education, including but are not limited to, developing courses enhance our undergraduate and graduate programs, mentoring students. Successful candidates will have access to advanced laboratory facilities, opportunities for internal research funding, and collaboration with Centers of Excellence. UAEU is renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and research innovation. The application package should include a cover letter, a detailed resume, statements of current and future research, and teaching philosophies. English is the language of instruction and communication. The start date for this position is August 2024/January 2025. Screening of applications will continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualification

Ph.D. in Materials Science and/or Engineering or a closely related field from an internationally recognized university at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Research track-record commensurate with the rank applied for. The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses is a must.

Preferred Qualification

B.Sc./B.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. Industrial and professional experience is a plus. Expertise in materials science and engineering. All contemporary areas of materials science and engineering are of interest. These include but are not limited to, metamaterials, multifunctional materials, phase change materials, photovoltaic materials, materials for extreme environments, nano-composites, design for additively manufactured materials, piezoelectric materials, materials for healthcare, biomedical, energy conversion, harvesting and storage applications, applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to materials engineering, and behavior of materials.

Excpected Skills

Develop and lead a sustainable, innovative, independent research program, publish impactful research in top-ranked, field-related refereed journals, build reputation nationally and internationally to elevate UAEU’s international reputation. Dedication to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Experience in/strong commitment to engineering education including but are not limited to, curriculum, and pedagogical approaches development.
