Postdoctoral Position in Development of Algorithms and Experimental Tools for X-Ray Microscopy

Argonne National Laboratory Applied Materials Division

United States

The Advanced Photon Source, in collaboration with Applied Materials Division, is looking for a Postdoctoral Appointee to perform research and development (R&D) in support of the APS Upgrade (APS-U) PtychoProbe feature beamline.

The candidate will develop and implement ptychographic and tomographic reconstruction algorithms for imaging of specimens that are thicker than the depth of focus (DOF). T

he high resolution optics used in the PtychoProbe inherently yield a DOF much smaller than a typical samples. Hence, an approach for imaging these samples that extends the DOF limit and includes multiple scattering is required.

The candidate will further support the development of an in situ sample environment for application and testing of the algorithms.

Conducts research and development aligned with Argonne’s strategic missions in decarbonization of cement manufacturing. Develops and implements analysis algorithms for ptychographic and tomographic reconstructions at the PtychoProbe. Supports development of an in situ sample environment. Promotes findings through publications, presentations, program reports, software dissemination and other means of reporting outcomes. Strengthens career path opportunities by applying new technique, developing independent research capabilities and building professional skills such as communication, networking and leadership.

Position Requirements

Required Skills: A Ph.D. + 0-3 years of experience in applied mathematics, physics, computational imaging, or related field. Desired Skills: Experience in X-ray ptychography or tomography or related techniques. Experience in Python or other scientific programming language. Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good written, and communication skills.
