We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher with a background in Physical Oceanography to join the research group of Professor Fiamma Straneo at the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University.
The postdoctoral researcher will investigate connections between ice/ocean interactions, freshwater export from Greenland’s glacial fjords, and the oceanography of the Southwest Greenland shelf as part of the Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP).
The postdoc is expected to:
Work with a variety of data (moored, vessel-based, and remotely-sensed)
Collaborate closely with Prof. F. Straneo and her team
Engage in the planning and execution of fieldwork
Participate in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students
The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possibility for renewal of a second year depending on performance and availability of funds.
Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a related field is required by the time of appointment
Experience in analyzing hydrographic, velocity, and other oceanographic data (including programming in Matlab or Python) is highly desirable
Expertise in collecting field observations is preferred
Strong oral and written communication skills are expected
