About Ghent University

Ghent University is a world of its own. Employing more than 15.000 people, it is actively involved in education and research, management and administration, as well as technical and social service provision on a daily basis. It is one of the largest, most exciting employers in the area and offers great career opportunities.

With its 11 faculties and more than 85 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its staff and students.

Your Tasks

  • You will independently conduct research into the experimental and numerical characterisation of selective paste intrusion particle-bed printed concrete 3D infill patterns under single and multiaxial loading conditions.
  • You will perform experimental single and multiaxial tests including digital image correlation based analysis.
  • You will model the tests numerically using a continuum as well as a discrete approach, with the goal of obtaining a simplified homogeneous material model for selective paste intrustion particle-bed printed concrete infill patterns.
  • The final objective of the research is to obtain a doctoral degree. An English B2 Certificate is required for candidates not holding a education degree from an English program.

What We Are Looking For

  • You hold a Master’s degree in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, architectural engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • You preferrably have experience with concrete or cement based single or mutiaxial load tests on standard specimens using digital image correlation based result analysis.
  • You preferrably have experience with advanced non-linear finite element analysis of concrete, either continuum based (e.g. CDP modelling in Abaqus) or particle based (e.g. LDPM modelling in MARS).
  • You preferrable have experience with automatic data processing and basic programming skills (Python, C++, Matlab,…).
  • You have excellent English language skills and ideally also good / excellent Dutch language skills. An English B2 Certificate is required for candidates not holding a education degree from an English program.
  • You are eligible for enrolment in the doctoral program.

What We Can Offer You

  • We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
