KTH is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to focus on the analysis and modeling of the transformation of socio-technical systems, with a specific emphasis on electrification strategies (e.g., battery-electric, fuel cells, electric roads, battery swaps).
While previous studies have performed techno-economic analyses of individual technologies, this project takes a broader system approach, incorporating:
Supply and demand for green electricity and other fuels
Expansion of electricity grids
Infrastructure development rates
Technical solution development rates
Vehicle and component manufacturing ramp-up
The project aims to answer questions such as:
Which technology fits where?
What factors most influence scale-up?
Which policies best guide the transition?
Create a simulation model illustrating the transition and competition between electrification technologies.
Explore different scenarios and interactions between technologies.
Collaborate actively with a growing research team on modeling and analysis of complex socio-technical systems.
Jointly develop ideas for research projects and applications.
Explore new methods for combining qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
Required:
Doctoral degree or equivalent (eligibility must be met before the employment decision).
Research expertise relevant to socio-technical systems modeling.
Experience with simulation or modeling methods (e.g., System Dynamics, Agent-Based Modeling).
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Awareness of diversity, inclusion, and gender equality issues.
Preferred:
Doctoral degree obtained within the last three years.
Knowledge of socio-technical systems transitions.
Expertise in systems analysis and/or system modeling.
Experience in the transport or energy sectors (private or public).
