two Postdocs on Deep Learning in Remote Sensing

About us

The TUM-Professorship for Signal Processing in Earth Observation develops innovative methods for information extraction from remote sensing data in close cooperation with the Department EO Data Science of the Remote Sensing Technology Institute of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). For the BMBF-funded Future Lab on Artifi-cial Intelligence in Earth Observation (AI4EO), we are looking for two data scientists to form the backbone team of the lab starting from May 1, 2020.

The Future Lab will bring together 12 highly renowned senior scientists and doz-ens of junior scientists from across the globe to carry out cutting-edge AI4EO research that will help to bring AI4EO to the next level. The research topics include but are not limited to reasoning, uncertainty and ethics in AI4EO.


Promising applicants have a PhD degree in mathematics, computer science, machine learning, remote sensing or similar. In detail, we expect:

  • proven skills in at least two of these fields: Earth observation, deep learning, big data management, high-performance computing
  • solid command of relevant programming languages (e.g. Python)
  • excellent communication skills and team spirit
  • solid command of the English language both in written and spoken form (German language is a plus)

The Technical University of Munich wants to increase the number of female employees, i.e. qualified female can-didates are explicitly encouraged to apply for this position. Pending the approval of the project by BMBF, the positions are supposed to be filled by May 1, 2020 and limited to 3 years. Payment is according to TV-L E13 scale.
