The Opportunity

Expressions of interest are sought from outstanding candidates for PhD study in Chemical Engineering.

PhD Project – High surface area inorganic electrodes for hybrid energy storage systems

An attractive annual scholarship of 32000 AUD (for 3.5 years) is available for a PhD student to conduct research on the development of hybrid devices from high surface area, nano-active precursors. The research will be conducted as part of the Australian Research Council- Industry Transformation Training Centre (ARC-ITTC) program under the joint supervision of researchers from the Department of Chemical Engineering (Dr. Parama Chakraborty Banerjee) and School of Chemistry (Prof. Douglas MacFarlane and Dr. Mega Kar) at Monash University.  The ARC Centre for Future Energy Storage Technologies brings together graduate researchers (PhD students) and academic leaders from various fields with external partners to explore issues of global significance.

A strong background and interest in materials science, electrochemistry and fabrication are highly desirable. Applicants must show excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to conduct self-motivated research. International applicants should have Masters Degree in the relevant research areas and have a record of publishing their research in mainstream scientific journals.

Note: applicants who already hold a PhD will not be considered.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, over Skype if necessary. The interviews will be conducted in English.
