Your Role

Future generation of wireless communications’ systems will make a large use of novel techniques to efficiently manage the available resources like Dynamic Beamforming. Dynamic Beamforming is enable by the latest development on the large scale active antenna arrays and it allow to efficiently and dynamically re distribute the system resources according to the variations of the traffic demand, with the user link being intelligent focus the active antennas towards the areas with high traffic demand or to follow mobile terminal. In this context we aim to develop an hardware demonstrator based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) in order to demonstrate this new digital signal processing technique

The successful candidates will join a strong and motivated research team lead by Prof. Björn Ottersten and Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas in order to carry out research in order to pursue a PhD on the following topics:

  • Dynamic beam-forming design
  • In-band signaling
  • Implementation of an hardware demonstrator using SDR

The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Carrying out research in the predefined areas
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications
  • Participating in proposal drafting
  • Assisting in organization of relevant workshops

Your Profile

Qualification: The candidate should possess an MSc degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics.

Experience: The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and experience in a number of the following topics:

  • Signal processing for wireless communications
  • Physical Layer aspects of satellite communication

and be familiar with the principles of

  • Wireless Communication Standards (IEEE 802.11, 3GPP, DVB)
  • Precoding Techniques
  • Dynamic Beam Forming Techniques
  • Resource Allocation Techniques

Development skills in Labview, MATLAB and C++ are required.

Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.

The University offers a Ph.D. study program with a Fixed Term Contract up to 3 years in total, pending satisfaction of progress milestones (CDD), on full time basis (40hrs/week.
