Position Summary:
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) invites applications for three open-rank faculty positions as part of a multi-year expansion plan. While all ranks are welcome, particular interest is in early- and mid-career candidates ready to accelerate research growth. Faculty will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with strong opportunities for research and industry engagement.

Strategic Thrust Areas:

  • AI-Powered Microchips and Systems: AI-powered microchips, healthcare systems, edge intelligence, trustworthy and explainable AI

  • Robotics and Autonomous Systems: Medical/surgical robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, assistive and human–machine systems

  • Quantum and Nano Technologies: Quantum communication, computing, sensing, nanoelectronics, emerging devices, energy-efficient systems

  • Cybersecurity and Cyber-Physical Systems: Hardware/software/network security, AI for secure/resilient systems, privacy, secure sensing/control in critical infrastructures

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline

  • Strong record of research excellence with high-impact funded research

  • Commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship

  • Collaborative spirit and willingness to pursue interdisciplinary work

  • Exceptional consideration for mid-career candidates with active funded research and successful doctoral student mentorship

  • Work across UM with the Miller School of Medicine, UHealth system, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science (RSMAS), Frost Institute of Data Science and Computing, and other departments
