The Opportunity

The Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in power and energy systems to complement the current strengths in this area and further develop its internationally recognised teaching and research program.

The Department has an active research program aimed at supporting the Australian and international energy transition away from fossil fueled generation to high variable renewable energy-based systems. The associated rebuilding of the Australian power system is occurring at one of the highest rates in the world making exciting research opportunities. The Department has existing research strengths covering grid integration of renewable energy resources at distribution and transmission level, power system planning, new control and dynamics for inverter-based resources, cyber-physical power systems, energy markets, distributed energy, demand management, electric vehicles and power systems protection.

These activities are part of a broader research program in Monash University which brings together researchers across different disciplines including IT, Engineering and Business and Economics and connects them to industry and government in the Monash Energy Institute. Academics and researchers are supported by the Monash Energy Institute in identifying research challenges that are both impactful in the Climate Change mitigation field and have high quality academic research outcomes. The institute and its initiatives (The Monash Grid Innovation Hub, The Monash Woodside Energy Partnership, The RACE for 2030 CRC and others) are focused on developing solutions to enable sustainable generation, storage, distribution, visualisation and end-use of energy.
